Shock and outrage have gripped Lagos as the police arrested one Chibuike Azubike, 65, an indigene of Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom, Ideato North LGA of Imo State, who paraded himself as the so-called “Obi of Lagos.”

Azubike, a fake engineer, was caught alongside three co-conspirators identified as Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65) and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41). The suspects are now cooling their heels at the Lagos State Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

The group had planned to unveil a ₦1.5 billion prototype palace for the imaginary “Obi of Lagos State” at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. But their plan collapsed as the police stormed the venue, sealed it off and stationed tactical teams, Eko Strike Force units and conventional officers to ensure the provocative event never took place.

This shocking development has sparked anger across Yorubaland. Citizens are asking pointed questions: When did Lagos ever have an Obi? Who gave approval for such an insult? Is Lagos no longer the pride of the Yoruba people?

Cultural leaders have warned that this brazen attempt amounts to trespassing on Yoruba land and a deliberate provocation to the host community. The move is being seen as another dangerous attempt to rewrite history and undermine indigenous authority in Lagos.

Special thanks have been directed to the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism and Culture for moving swiftly to protect the heritage and dignity of the state.

The arrest of the fake “Obi of Lagos” and his accomplices sends a clear message: Lagos belongs to the Yoruba people and no impostor will be allowed to plant a foreign throne on Yoruba soil.
