Human rights lawyer and vocal Peter Obi supporter, Inibehe Effiong, has ignited a storm on social media with a post many are calling shocking and controversial. Effiong shared an image of Nepal’s parliament in flames and wrote:
“There are situations in a country that can’t be solved through ‘elections’. I’m wishing the people of Nepal a positive outcome as they revolt to reset their country.”
The post, which did not explicitly mention Nigeria, has led to widespread speculation that Effiong is subtly endorsing a similar upheaval in the country, raising concerns about political stability.
Effiong, who played a prominent role advocating for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, is known for pushing democratic reforms and accountability. Yet, his recent statement has left many questioning whether he is now encouraging civil unrest.
Political observers are sharply divided. Some argue Effiong is merely criticizing the current government and calling for systemic reforms. Others warn that his words could be interpreted as incitement to revolt, sparking potential unrest.
“This is highly dangerous,” said one analyst. “Posting imagery of a burning parliament alongside statements questioning elections is bound to inflame tensions. It’s the kind of rhetoric that can polarize a country.”
Effiong has not yet clarified whether his message was intended as a critique of governance or an endorsement of radical action. Social media users and political watchers are now anxiously awaiting his response, as debates rage over whether his post is patriotic criticism or a call to chaos.
