A leaked internal memo has revealed growing tensions within the Obidient Movement, as some members have formally petitioned the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, over what they describe as the continued marginalisation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) within the broader coalition.
The petition, addressed directly to Obi, reportedly expressed concerns that members and structures of the ADC, who were instrumental during the 2023 general elections in supporting the “Obidient” campaign, are being sidelined in current political activities, appointments, and decision-making processes.
According to sources within the movement, the memo lamented what it called a lack of inclusion and recognition for ADC stakeholders, despite their early and vocal support for Obi’s candidacy during the campaign.
One section of the leaked document allegedly reads: “We stood with you when it mattered most, but we are now left behind in the movement we helped to build.”
While Peter Obi has not officially responded to the petition, insiders suggest that consultations may already be underway to address the concerns and unify the coalition ahead of future political engagements.
The development signals emerging cracks in the Obidient alliance, a grassroots-driven political force that gained momentum in 2022, uniting young Nigerians and progressives across party lines behind Obi’s presidential bid.
Political observers say the handling of this issue could influence the strength and cohesion of the Obidient Movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
