Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, is poised to revolutionize Nigeria’s logistics landscape with a massive seaport project in Ogun State.
The Dangote Group has submitted formal paperwork to construct the country’s largest and deepest seaport, aimed at boosting export capacity and strengthening its logistics operations.
The planned seaport, located in Olokola, Ogun State, will offer an integrated logistics solution for the group’s growing operations, including fertilizer and oil refinery plants.
“It’s not that we want to do everything by ourselves, but I believe this kind of investment will inspire other entrepreneurs to get involved too,” Dangote said.
The project will also enable the group to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Lagos, with plans to build pipelines from the Niger Delta.
“We want to do a major project to bring in more gas than what NLNG is doing today,” Dangote said, referencing Nigeria LNG Ltd. “We know where there is a lot of gas, so we’ll run a pipeline all the way and bring it to the shore.”
Dangote’s vision for the project is rooted in bold ambition and long-term planning, with the billionaire recently remarking that Africa could be transformed into a “heaven” in just five years.
The seaport project is expected to compete with existing infrastructure, including the Chinese-funded Lekki Deep Sea Port, and further solidify the Dangote Group’s position as a major player in Nigeria’s economy.
