In a gesture of respect and appreciation, the Federal Government has announced a public holiday on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, to commemorate the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on Monday, inviting Nigerians to join in honouring the former leader’s contributions to the nation.

The burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari has been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Daura, Katsina State.

According to Governor Dikko Umar Radda, the former President’s body will arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday, with the funeral prayer (janaza) set to take place at 2 p.m. in Daura.

The decision to postpone the burial was made after consultations with Buhari’s family and close associates in London, where he passed away on Sunday.

Governor Radda expressed deep condolences to the family of the late President and to all Nigerians mourning the loss of a national icon. He also extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying, “May Allah give us the strength to bear this great loss”.

The Katsina State Government is coordinating with federal authorities and the Buhari family to ensure a befitting and dignified farewell for the late leader.

Security has been reinforced in and around Daura ahead of the funeral, which is expected to attract a large number of mourners, including top government officials, diplomats, and members of the public.
