The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has launched a major enforcement drive to ensure all commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Maruwa) operators in the state wear barcode jackets with embedded security features.

This move aims to enhance security and tracking capabilities.

According to OYRTMA’s Executive Chairman, Major Adesagba Adekoya, “The barcode jacket contains security features, including a unique barcode for identification and tracking purposes. It is mandatory for all commercial riders to wear it while operating on public roads.”

OYRTMA’s General Manager, Commander Ayoade Adeoye, announced that the enforcement would begin on June 30, 2025.

“All Okada and Maruwa operators without a barcode jacket are directed to immediately proceed to the Oyo State Secretariat to register their vehicles and collect their jackets,” he stated.

The authority has been registering riders for the past three years, but many have yet to comply.

“No excuses will be entertained after enforcement begins. Unregistered riders will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the traffic laws of the state,” the agency warned.
