The Oyo Alaafin in Diaspora Executives, supported by the global network of Oyo sons and daughters, has announced its full participation in the 50th birthday celebration of Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1.
The event is slated for July 19, 2025.
This was contained in a statement signed by the group Publicity Director, Prince Lashley Oladigbolu, made available to The Yoruba Times on Friday.
The diaspora community has launched a robust fundraising campaign in honor of Kabiyesi’s golden jubilee.
The initiative aims to deliver a tangible impact through educational empowerment and cultural development.
The group’s contributions include presentation of royal gift packs to Kabiyesi in commemoration of his 50th birthday, full sponsorship of General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms for high-achieving students in selected schools across Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East, and Oyo West Local Government Areas, and recognition and award for the best-performing student in the 2025 JAMB examination.
The Oyo Alaafin in Diaspora remains committed to the developmental initiatives and unification agenda of Iku Baba Yeye Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1.
The group aligns itself with the monarch’s vision for a stronger, more united Oyo and is dedicated to stimulating growth, promoting education, and empowering the people, especially the younger generation.
“We are resolutely committed to the developmental initiatives and unification agenda of Iku Baba Yeye Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1,” the group stated.
The group is advocating for the urgent completion of the Durbar Stadium, envisioned as a central celebration square for the town. Once completed, this stadium will serve as a cultural and ceremonial hub, reinforcing Oyo’s historical significance while boosting tourism, events, and youth engagement.
The official delivery of the group’s contributions, including educational support and royal gifts, will take place at the end of June 2025.
The delegation will be led by Vice Chairman Dr. Ademola Adeleke and Pastor Tolulope Atoyebi Ojoawo.
The Oyo Alaafin in Diaspora continues to position itself as a formidable ally in the promotion of Oyo’s heritage, empowerment of its people, and advocacy for the town’s recognition in both national and international spheres.
As the golden jubilee approaches, the group proudly stands with Iku Baba Yeye Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1, united in purpose, progress, and pride for the Oyo Kingdom.
