Former Minister of Finance and Secretary to the Military Government of Ibrahim Babangida, HRM Dr. Oluyemi Falae, CFR, GCON, made a startling revelation about the 1999 presidential election in an interview with Arise TV. Falae, who ran against Olusegun Obasanjo in the election, claimed that he clearly won the polls.

According to Falae, his lawyer, the late GOK Ajayi, successfully established in court that if the duplicated results were discounted, Falae won by 1.5 million votes. Falae also cited Late Ambassador Dende Fernandes, who allegedly informed him that he had seen the election results with the Americans, and Falae won by a landslide.

He said, “I clearly won the election. My lawyer, the late GOK Ajayi, did an excellent job in court, and we established that if the duplicated results were discounted, I won by 1.5 million votes.”

“Ambassador Dende Fernandes told me that he had seen the election results with the Americans, and I won by a landslide. I’m convinced that Nigerians voted for me.

“I believe the military was apprehensive about a thoroughbred civilian taking over from them. They preferred a hybrid, someone with a military background, rather than a true civilian like myself” he mentioned.
