Thirteen-year-old Michelle Ibidapo, a student at The Grange School, Ikeja, has made a splash at the Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival.
Representing Team Oyo, Michelle claimed the gold medal in the women’s 1,500m freestyle event.
Discovered at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Michelle has quickly risen to prominence in Nigeria’s sporting scene, showcasing her talent and determination.
After her impressive victory in Shagamu, Michelle said: “Coming into this competition, I was focused.
I had my mind on winning a medal, even though I wasn’t sure what colour.
“During the last lap, I reminded myself to stay focused, and by the end, it turned into gold.”
Michelle’s triumph state the impact of the Youth Games in identifying and nurturing young talent, providing them with opportunities to excel at the national level.
