5 Lagos Council Chairmen lose re-election tickets in APC primaries

At the just concluded All Progressive Congress, APC, primaries for LCDA election, five incumbent council chairmen in Lagos State failed to secure their re-election tickets.

The primary elections was held on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

The affected chairmen were from Coker Aguda, Agbado Oke-Odo, Onigbongbo, Ayobo Ipaja, and Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

According to reports, Rasak Olamilekan of Coker Aguda LCDA lost to Azeez Ogidan, while Oladapo Famuyiwa of Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA was defeated by Jimoh Ishola. Rakiat Hassan of Onigbongbo LCDA lost to Moyo Adebanjo, and Ladi Oluwaloni of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA was edged out by Abiodun Agbaje, believed to be favored by former lawmaker Bisi Yusuf. John Ogundare of Eti-Osa East LCDA lost to Samson Agunbiade, a former chairman who had lost to Ogundare in the previous election.

The primaries saw a total of 55 candidates emerge across 57 local government areas, with four candidates emerging through consensus. Babatunde Ogala, Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, announced the winners, citing transparency and the interest of the party as the guiding principles behind the exercise. Some aspirants protested the outcomes, but Ogala urged them to exercise their right to appeal.
