Traditional Chief killed in botched kidnapping artempt in Ondo

A titled community leader, Chief Arije of Ofi, has been killed by unknown gunmen in Ipele-Owo, Ondo State, during an alleged failed kidnapping attempt.

The incident occurred at the chief’s residence in the Ofi area around 8:00 p.m.

Eyewitness reported that the gunmen stormed the chief’s home, attempting to abduct him while firing shots to intimidate residents.

However, Chief Arije resisted, prompting a struggle that ultimately led to his death when the kidnappers realized they were about to be apprehended by approaching residents.

This incident is not an isolated case, as Ondo State has been plagued by a series of kidnappings and killings in recent times.

For instance, a traditional chief, High Chief Mukaila Bello, and three others were kidnapped in Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, with the police confirming the incident and launching a rescue operation.

Moreover, a recent report indicates that another man, Oluwaseun, was killed by suspected kidnappers in Upenmen, located in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The insecurity in Ondo State has become a source of worry for residents, with many expressing concerns over the government’s ability to protect them.

The Ondo State Assembly has summoned security chiefs over the incessant kidnapping in the state, expressing dissatisfaction over the situation.

This development has led to fear and anxiety among the populace, with many wondering when the state will be safe again.

A similar case that garnered attention was the kidnapping of an Afenifere youth leader.

This shows the complexity of the security challenge in the region, where criminals may not necessarily be from outside the community.
