A Lagos State High Court has delivered a death sentence to Andrew Nice Ominikoron, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, for the murder of Bamise Ayanwola, a 22-year-old fashion designer.

The verdict was delivered by Justice Sherifat Sonaike on Friday, May 2, 2025.

According to the court, Ominikoron was found guilty of conspiring with others now at large to rape and kill Bamise.

The incident occurred in February 2022 when Bamise boarded the BRT bus but never reached her destination.

Her naked body was later found by the roadside, and security operatives arrested Ominikoron, who pleaded not guilty.

Justice Sonaike, however, found Ominikoron guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging. The case has drawn widespread attention, and the sentence has been seen as a measure of justice for Bamise’s family and loved ones.

The incident sparked outrage and concern about safety on public transportation, particularly for women.

The court’s decision sends a strong message about the consequences of such heinous crimes.
