Tension has gripped Akure, the Ondo State capital, as farmers took to the streets to protest the alleged killing of five people by suspected herdsmen at Aba Oyinbo community in Akure North Local Government Area.

The protesters, comprising Ondo residents, flooded the streets, shutting down Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s office at Alagbaka, Akure.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants invaded the community in the early hours of Wednesday, opening fire on the farmers.

The protesters claimed that the farmers were shot dead on Wednesday morning, and they displayed the bodies of the slain farmers in front of the Governor’s office.

This incident is not an isolated one, as many persons were killed earlier this month by herdsmen in a reprisal attack on four communities in Akure North local government area.

The protesters have also blocked the Akure-Owo highway at Ogbese to protest the killing of the five farmers.

The protest has brought business activities to a standstill in the area, with many residents expressing their anger and frustration over the incessant attacks by herdsmen.

The Ondo State Government has been called upon to take decisive action to address the security challenges facing the state.
