Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has approved the adoption of Ekiti Adire as the official attire on the third Wednesday of every month.
Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, the State Commissioner for Information, made the announcement available on his official social media handle.
This decision aims to promote the state’s cultural heritage and encourage residents, particularly political office holders and top civil servants, to wear Adire fabrics.
The move is expected to showcase the unique artistry of Adire in Ekiti State, create jobs and provide employment opportunities for residents interested in the tie and dye craft, and increase revenue generation for the state and boost the local economy.
It will preserve traditional techniques while encouraging modern adaptations and designs, and foster entrepreneurship and innovation among young people, particularly women, in the state.
This development follows a resolution by the State House of Assembly on September 25, 2024, which urged the state Government to set aside the third Wednesday of every month to promote the state’s cultural heritage.
In another development, the State Executive Council also approved other projects, including the construction of a standard football pitch and renovation of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium Ado Ekiti, which is expected to be completed within three months.
The council also approved the installation of solar streetlights at GRA 3rd Extension Phase II, off NTA Road, Ado-Ekiti, and the extension of electricity and installation of a 500KVA transformer at Maryland Avenue, Ado Ekiti.
