As the historic coronation of Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Engr. Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, draws near, the Diaspora Initiative for Alaafin Coronation has urged security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property within the Oyo Federal Constituency.

Given the recent surge in kidnapping and other security concerns, the Initiative has called on the Oyo State Government, police formations, Amotekun Corps, the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), and the revered Aare Ona Kakanfo, Iba Gani Adams, to reinforce security measures across the state.

A special appeal has also been made to the Coronation Security Subcommittee Chairman, AIG Deji Ogundele (Rtd.), and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, to coordinate efforts that will guarantee a peaceful and well-secured environment throughout the festivities.

The coronation, set to take place between March 31st and April 12th, 2025, is a momentous occasion that will draw high-profile dignitaries from across Nigeria and around the world to the Metropolitan City of Oyo.

This event marks a historic milestone, as it has been 54 years since the last Alaafin coronation in 1971.

According to Dr. Ademola Adeleke and Prince Lashley Ladigbolu, Coordinators and spokespersons for the Diaspora Initiative for Alaafin Coronation, “The Alaafin’s coronation is not just a celebration of our heritage but a beacon of unity, tradition, and pride for the Yoruba people and beyond. We must do everything within our power to ensure that our guests experience the warmth, hospitality, and security that Oyo is known for.”

As Oyo prepares to host the world, the Diaspora Initiative for Alaafin Coronation emphasizes that all hands must be on deck to safeguard this historic moment, ensuring a smooth, peaceful, and grand coronation befitting the revered throne of Alaafin.
