The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, has advised Nigerians to always request receipts for every drug purchase made from pharmacies.
She emphasized the importance of this practice during an interview with Channels Television.
Professor Adeyeye stressed that Nigerians should exercise caution when purchasing drugs, ensuring they only buy from reputable pharmacies.
She highlighted the significance of looking out for the “RX” symbol, which serves as a sign that the pharmacy is legitimate and authorized to sell drugs.
The NAFDAC boss warned against patronizing pharmacies that operate in secret, often referred to as “close-door shops.”
These establishments may sell counterfeit or unapproved drugs, posing serious health risks to consumers.
Professor Adeyeye’s call for Nigerians to demand receipts for every drug purchase is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the pharmaceutical industry.
By doing so, consumers can help prevent the sale of fake or substandard drugs, ensuring they receive safe and effective medications.
The Director-General’s emphasis on the importance of buying drugs from authorized pharmacies with the “RX” symbol is a crucial step in safeguarding public health.
