Lagos Clamps Down on Illegal Alcohol Sale

June 20, 2023 1 min read

The Lagos State Government has stopped the sale and consumption of alcohol at motor parks, garages, and roadsides.

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) recently embarked on a clampdown operation and confiscated alcohol worth about N2m.

CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd), the Corps Marshal of the Agency, disclosed that this operation would continue as the State Government was concerned about the high prevalence of liquor sales in garages, motor parks, roadsides, and in the traffic.

Akinpelu emphasized the serious risks this trend posed to the mental, psychological, and overall well-being of drivers, motorists, and pedestrians.

The seized alcoholic beverages, she said, would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for destruction, as LAGSEC was determined to combat the illegal sale of alcohol in the state’s motor parks.

Akinpelu also issued a stern warning to street traders, urging them to stop displaying and selling alcoholic drinks in garages, motor parks, roadsides, and the traffic.

She added the the agency would persist in its efforts to eliminate all environmental nuisances from the state.
