The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has made significant strides in combating crime in the state, arresting and parading over 300 suspected criminals in the last three months.
This achievement is a sign of the agency’s determination to ensure the safety of lives and property in Ondo State.
According to Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Commander of the Amotekun Corps, the suspects were arrested across 15 locations in the 18 council areas of the state.
The arrests were made possible through the agency’s reliance on grassroots intelligence, which has proven to be a valuable tool in identifying and apprehending criminals.
Adeleye revealed that most of the suspected criminals arrested in the border communities of the state were linked to criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, housebreaking, and several other minor offenses.
He noted that some of the suspects have been prosecuted in court, while others had their cases resolved, and many remain in correctional centers across the state.
The Amotekun Corps has also established a network of “Amotekun ambassadors” who operate discreetly within communities, gathering grassroots information to help identify bad actors who collaborate with criminals.
This system has been yielding remarkable results, with all the criminals apprehended so far being identified through grassroots intelligence reports.
Adeleye assured the people of Ondo State that the agency is determined to stop the influx of bandits into the state and drive away those who have sneaked in. “We have put in place some strategies that will make the state too hot for them to stay,” he said.
The commander also lauded the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for providing Amotekun with an enabling environment to operate.
With the agency’s efforts and the support of the state government, Ondo State is poised to become a safer and more secure place for its citizens.
