A massive protest is underway in Lahti, Finland, as over 1,000 Biafrans, led by the Biafra government, gather outside the detention facility where their leader, Simon Ekpa, is being held.
The protesters are demanding Ekpa’s immediate release.
Ekpa, the self-proclaimed prime minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), was detained by the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation on November 21, 2024, on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.
The protesters, who are mostly Biafran nationals living in Finland, are calling for Ekpa’s release, citing his innocence and the legitimacy of the Biafran cause.
The Biafra Government has also issued a statement condemning Ekpa’s detention and calling for his immediate release.
However, Finland authority have said Ekpa is not bailable.
The protest in Lahti is the latest development in the ongoing saga surrounding Ekpa and the Biafran independence movement.
Ekpa has been a vocal advocate for Biafran independence and has been involved in various activities aimed at promoting the cause.
The Finnish authorities have yet to comment on the protest, but it is clear that the situation is being closely monitored. The outcome of Ekpa’s detention and the ongoing protest remains to be seen.
