Taskforce raids Mosan-Okunola, arrests 43 suspected drug peddlers shuts down complicit shops

A recent operation by the Lagos State Taskforce has resulted in the arrest of 43 suspected sellers of illicit substances and criminal elements in the Mosan-Okunola LCDA area of Alimosho LGA.

The operation, which commenced on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at around 1800hrs, was a follow-up to a previous raid on drug gangs in the area.

According to Lagos State Commissioner for Environment , Tokunbo Wahaab, announced on his X page on Friday that the Taskforce recovered a significant mix of illicit drugs, including substances suspected to be Kanedian Loud Hemp, prescription drugs, Codeine Syrups, and Indian Hemp Crushers.

He wrote, “48 hours after carrying out coordinated raids of drug gangs perpetrating drug deals and related crimes in Gowon estate, the Taskforce, returned to 31 Rd and the adjoining streets of Wole Omo Osho, Bless Jah, Adenle Crescent and Okunola Rd in Mosan-Okunola LCDA in Alimosho LGA in a mop up exercise for the most extensive clean up operation to end the activities of drug peddling and use in the entire area.

“A significant mix of different illicit drugs, viz a viz substances suspected to be Kanedian Loud Hemp, prescription drugs, Codeine Syrups, several Weighing Scales of illicit substances, Indian Hemp Crushers and knives were recovered from the suspects.”

He also noted that neighboring shop owners who conspired with the peddlers were also arrested, while those found innocent were warned to desist from any illegal activities.

“Neighbouring shop owners who conspires and conceal the illicit drugs for the peddlers and same recovered in their shops were arrested while those in whose shops nothing incriminating was found were warned to concentrate on what is displayed for sales at their various shops and never to join in such illegal act.

“Also, all makeshift/ shanties used for the drug activities around the entire area were demolished during the operation and operatives were deployed with blackmaria stationed for sustenance” He said.

The operation also involved the demolition of makeshift structures used for drug activities, and operatives were deployed to maintain surveillance in the area.
This operation is part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the state. The government has vowed to take decisive action against anyone found to be involved in illegal drug activities.

The Lagos State Taskforce has been at the forefront of the fight against crime and illegal activities in the state.

The agency has been working tirelessly to rid the state of criminal elements and to ensure that residents can live in peace and safety.

The Taskforce will continue to work with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that the state is rid of all forms of criminality.
