The former first Lady of Ondo State, Betty Akeredolu, has described Nigeria as “a zoo country” while comparing the country’s presidential election to that of the United States.

She highlighted the discrepancies in the voting process, stating that Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election had 25 million total votes cast over five days, whereas the 2024 US presidential election had 155 million votes cast in approximately 10 hours.

Akeredolu’s comment was in response to a follower, Paulexy, who noted that “truth is indeed bitter” and that Nigerians are “doomed” in the country.

Akeredolu replied, “Very bitter indeed! Who will rescue Nigeria? What a zoo country!”

This statement comes after her husband, Rotimi Akeredolu, passed away on December 27, 2023.

Akeredolu had been battling prostate cancer, which was kept hidden by his family to maintain control over state affairs.

Despite his poor health, Akeredolu refused to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, sparking controversy.

In 2009, Akeredolu, then President of the Nigerian Bar Association, had called for President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s resignation due to his ill health.

However, when faced with similar health challenges, Akeredolu chose not to step down.

The situation surrounding Akeredolu’s health and his family’s involvement has raised concerns.

Report has it that Betty and her son, Babajide, kept Akeredolu in Ibadan against his wishes, despite his request to return to his hometown in Ondo State.

Additionally, a forensic report confirmed that Akeredolu’s signature was forged on many official documents.
