Olu of Warri dissolves INYC, forms Interim committee to foster unity, progress

The Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, has dissolved the leadership of the Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC).

This decisive intervention aims to promote unity and progress among Itsekiri youths.

The announcement was made on Monday, October 28, during a meeting with Itsekiri youths from across Nigeria at the Olu’s Palace Hall.

The king expressed his vision for a unified and progressive youth organization, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, respect, and the need for talented individuals to contribute to the kingdom’s growth.

To guide the INYC through a three-month reformation period, Ogiame Atuwatse III has established an interim committee led by three of his chiefs: Chiefs Omolubi Newuwumi, Wilson Olley, and Esther Okotie-Eboh. The committee also includes two lawyers, Stephen Efejuku and Oritsetimeyin Otaru, as well as members from the National Association of Itsekiri Students (NAIS) and the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG). This diverse team represents a blend of emerging youth leaders from educational and professional backgrounds.

The decision to dissolve the council follows internal conflicts over the INYC’s leadership. The interim committee’s primary task is to draft a new constitution, which is expected to be presented by the end of January 2025.

In addition, the Olu of Warri has announced that senior youth leaders over 40 years of age will serve as advisors to the reformed INYC, offering their experience to support the council’s development.

The king urged all Itsekiri youths to focus on constructive engagement and development within the kingdom, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective progress.
