Nigeria has made a remarkable impression at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, clinching a total of seven medals to finish 40th in the overall medal table.
The country’s medal tally comprises two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, showcasing the exceptional talent and dedication of Nigerian athletes.
Onyinyechi Mark set a new Paralympic record in the women’s 61kg powerlifting category, lifting an astonishing 145kg to secure gold. Folashade Oluwafemiayo also claimed gold in the women’s over 86kg powerlifting category, demonstrating her remarkable strength.
Bose Omolayo and Esther Nworgu secured silver medals in the women’s up to 79kg and up to 41kg powerlifting categories, respectively.
Flora Ugwunwa also won silver in the Women’s Javelin F54 category with a throw of 19.26m.
Isau Ogunkunle made history by becoming the first Nigerian player to win an individual medal in Para Table Tennis since the Sydney 2000 Games, claiming bronze in the Men’s Singles Class 4 event.
Nigeria’s impressive performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is a testament to the country’s growing prowess in Paralympic sports. The seven medals won by Nigerian athletes will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of athletes and cement Nigeria’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the Paralympic movement.
