In an outstanding display of strength and determination, Nigerian-Yoruba powerlifter Folashade Oluwafemiayo made history on Sunday at the 2024 Paralympics Games in Paris, France.
The Team Nigeria captain shattered the world record in the women’s over 86kg category, lifting an incredible 167kg to claim the gold medal.
Oluwafemiayo’s remarkable achievement marked a first for para-powerlifting, cementing her position as one of the sport’s greatest athletes. China’s Deng Xuemei took silver with a lift of 155kg, while Egypt’s Nadia Ali secured bronze with a lift of 145kg.
Folashade Oluwafemiayo is a Nigerian powerlifter who has made history at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, France.
She won a gold medal in the women’s over 86kg category and broke her own world record with a lift of 166kg.
Folashade was born on March 11, 1985, in Jos, Nigeria, and is married to another Paralympic athlete with whom she has a child.
