Just In: Sanwo-Olu condemns inciting #IgboMustGo post

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has condemned the recent X post calling on Igbos to vacate Lagos and other South-West states.

Sanwo-Olu who is the Chairman of South-West Governor’s forum has called on security agencies to promptly investigate those behind the post and bring them to Justice.

In a statement, Sanwo-Olu urged residents to ignore the post and any similar content, assuring them that efforts would be doubled towards ensuring lasting peace in the state.

The Governor emphasized that such post is capable of disrupting the peace in the state and the south west in general, calling on the security agencies to apprehend and deal with whoever is trying to cause tension in the state.

He calls for investigation and action amidst growing concerns about the potential for social media to be used to fuel violence and unrest. Sanwo-Olu’s administration has been working to address these concerns, and this latest statement demonstrates his commitment to keeping the peace and protecting the citizens of Lagos.

According to the statement released by Lagos state Government, “The Governor of Lagos State and indeed, Lagos State Government wish to distance themselves from the reckless, divisive and dangerous rhetoric, saying Lagos remains home to every Nigerian citizen regardless of their ethnic nationality.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu views the post as not only reckless and divisive but an attempt to sow a seed of discord between the Yoruba in the Southwest and other tribes, especially those who have made Lagos their permanent place of abode.

“The Governor appeals to Lagosians not to allow any person or group of individuals to create tensions in the State, calling on the security agencies to promptly investigate those behind the handle and bring them to justice.

“Mr. Governor enjoins Lagosians to ignore the post and any post of that nature, promising to double his efforts towards ensuring lasting peace in the State.”
