-Thousands of tourist arrive Osogbo as residents and entrepreneurs voice their excitement

In Osogbo, the Osun State capital, residents and business owners expresse great pleasure as thousands of devotees and enthusiasts around the globe flock the state to celebrate one of the most respected Yoruba deities, Osun, the goddess of fertility, also to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.
The Osun State capital is brimming with a lot of activities during the festive period and its atmosphere full with excitement as people from far and wide gather to celebrate the highly esteemed Osun goddess, and experience the authentic cultural traditions of the Yorubas.
Every year, thousands of people, including tourists from around the globe flock Osogbo with the aim to experience the rich Yoruba culture and immerse themselves in its vibrant tradition.
Tourists draw nigh to Osogbo from different parts of the world, including Europe, North and Southern America, Asia and other parts of African countries.
The yearly festival has become a catalyst for business growth as business owners in the region continue to witness massive surge in sales.
“Osun festival is more than just any other event in Nigeria, it’s a testament to the power of Yoruba culture and tradition”, a lecturer from Osun State University told The YorubaTimes.
Speaking to our correspondent, Dr. Popoola Maruf Moronkola, a lecturer in Osun State University from the Department of Physics said the festival does not only showcase the richness of Yoruba culture, but also create massive opportunities for local businesses to thrive in the region while boosting the economy of Nigeria through tourism.
He said: “The arrival of tourists brings surge to businesses in various sectors which include but, not limited to transport services, hospitality where hotel owners generate significant revenue, food vendors in cases where they capitalize on massive demands for local and traditional meals among others.”
Dr. Maruf who is also an indigenous person of Osun said that the non-stoppage of this yearly festival means the potential for growth in Osun State will be apparent.
For many residents within the community, the festival means an opportunity for tourists and devotees, leading to increased demand for accommodation, food, and other services.
Many others also set up kiosks, selling traditional delicacies and refreshments.
Entrepreneurs also capitalize on the festival which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
“I make more money during the Osun Festival than I do in the entire year,” said Mrs. Kofoworola , a local food vendor close to the sacred site.
“It’s a time of plenty, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the tourists”, she said.
Tunde Bamidele, an entrepreneur selling traditional attire said: “The festival has always been a boon for my business for many years, I stock up my shop months in advance, and it always sells out quickly”, he stated.
However, It is clear that Osun festival is not just about its spiritual significance, but also the economic driver for the local community.
