The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has banned the procession of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria to commemorate the 2024 Islamic calendar day of Ashura in Abuja.

In a post on its X handle on Monday, July 15, the Police said from past experiences, the group’s processions and protests ended violently, stating as such, anyone who violated the order would be arrested.

The post reads: “According to the intelligence we have gathered, members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shi’ite, are planning to hold a protest/procession to commemorate the 2024 Islamic calendar day of Ashura.

“In the past, the group’s processions, protests, and other activities have ended violently.
