Truly, anger is a wind which blows out the lamp of the mind.
Nigeria are increasingly in danger of missing out on the 2026 World Cup after they fell to a surprise defeat against Benin in qualification.
And the shock loss to the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan yesterday, provoked the anger of men who had followed the progress of the national team.
Sports editors, who chronicle events on football, were traumatised with the performance of the Super Eagles.
They poured scorn on the players and the football house, NFF.
“We’ve blown it up! When last did a Nigerian coach go for a coaching course?
“Playing for Nigeria does not guarantee automatic employment to ex-internationals.
“My heart bleeds because we have lost a generation of golden players like Ademola Lookman not going to the World Cup.
“Green Eagles’ 1980 and 1994 Super Eagles’ squad members should leave our football alone. They belong to the past”, one of them wrote.
Another sports writer, Adekunle Salami said:
“It’s a very bad result. Never seen such a horrible game before.
“What a shame! We’ve played four games without a win.
“The blame of this scandal goes to NFF. Everything they do is always done on sentiments.”
“It is very unfortunate to even think that Lesotho have more points than the Eagles”, Duro Ikahazuagbe said.
