Former Oyo Governor Olunloyo Debunks Death Rumour, Says ‘I’m Still Here’

April 19, 2024 1 min read

Dr Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of old Oyo State and respected elder statesman, has spoken out to dismiss rumours of his passing, confirming that he is very much alive.

During a visit to his Molete residence in Ibadan, the state capital on Friday, Olunloyo assured that he was in good health and spirits.

Earlier, several news outlets had reported the false news of his demise.

However, Olunloyo addressed the rumour, saying, β€œI’m still here, not yet gone.” He expressed concern over the spread of such misinformation and noted the impermanence of life, stating, β€œThose breaking death news and the person presumed dead will all die one day.”

He added, β€œI’ve been lucky. My father died at 42, while my mother died at 102. I’m 89. I’ve crossed the expected life age.”

Olunloyo also recalled how the false report of his death had spread across news platforms on June 7, 2022, with claims that he had passed away at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

His family later issued a statement confirming that he was alive, but struggling with age-related health issues and requested prayers for his recovery.
