November 13, 2023 2 min read

Residents of Odiemerenyi in Ahoada East Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State have been thrown into panic as suspected cultists have shot and killed five members of the community.

The dastardly act which took place at about 1:00am on Sunday was suspected to have been orchestrated by the dreaded David Gift aka 2baba and his gang who were wanted for the murder of late DPO Bako Angbashim.

A native of the community informed journalists that the gangsters invaded the village at about 1:00am and shot and killed two of his brothers and another person in his compound.

Speaking via telephone interview, the source who wished to remain anonymous said: “They said they’ve come to kill everybody that if they don’t release their people in police custody, including the chief that’s with them and those of their sympathizers, that they’re not going to stop killing everybody”.

He further said: “They shot my younger brother and two other of my brothers, then they went to another compound and shot another person. So, five persons were killed”.

Two of the gangsters were gunned down by police operatives, who responded to the distress call, but were engaged in a gun battle by the gang.

Some of the names of the deceased were given as Charles Osu, Ogbobula Ejee, and Eeje Idaowukwo.

They were allegedly accused by the cultists of being police informants.

As of press time, the spokesperson of the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, was yet to confirm, though she sent a WhatsApp message saying, “I’ll get back to you.”
