Think Yorubá First, a pan-Yorubá organisation, initiated the Yorubá Ronu Essay Competition and announced the winners on Yorubá Day.

The essay competition was introduced by Think Yorùbá First, a non-profit organisation dedicated solely to charitable, educational, scientific, and cultural purposes, in response to the campaign of fifth columnists attacking Yorùbá Ronu on social media, particularly Twitter (now X).

This was done to combat misinformation and intentional misrepresentation of Yoruba Ronu, a term coined by the culture enthusiast and philosophical singer, late Hubert Ogunde, in the 1960s.

In light of the presidential election campaigns that resulted in President Bola Tinubu’s victory, numerous misguided political machinery, and social media influencers attempting to manipulate ignorant Yorùbá youths and tarnish the reputation of the powerful and historic term/coinage “Yorùbá Ronu,” the organisation decided it was appropriate to discuss this and highlight the objectives, history, and rationale behind the coinage.

Following a rigorous evaluation process, three essays were chosen from among several submissions.

The first, second and third winners received prizes of N100,000, N75,000, and N50,000, respectively.

Each winner also received an award certificate.
