October 19, 2023 2 min read

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army(NA)/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has admonished graduating students of Exercise SHINNING STAR IV/23 to remain physically and mentally alert, and be prepared to be called upon to serve in any capacity.

The GOC gave this admonition at 6 Division Training School (DTS) in Port Harcourt Barracks, during the inauguration and graduation ceremonies of Basic Battle Course(BBC) 7/23 and Exercise SHINNING STAR IV/23.

The GOC appreciated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for his wisdom and benevolence in approving the DTS to train troops as they fought.

He further added that it was in line with the COAS’ command philosophy which was to “Transform the NA into a Well-trained, Equiped and Highly effective Force towards achieving our Consitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment”.

Speaking further, General Abdussalam said the key objective of the courses were to develop individual and team spirit amongst personnel, as well as a robust physical and mental alertness in order to enhance battle skills required for the personnel to develop endurance and ability to withstand extreme temperature, hunger, fatigue and sleep deprivation.

He congratulated them on their inauguration/graduation, adding that they were lucky to be beneficiaries of the training programme.

The Acting Division Training Officer (DTO), Lt Col Abdullahi Manu, while delivering his welcome address, appreciated the GOC for his support towards achieving the desired objectives of the training.

Also, while giving the highlights of the courses, he affirmed that the 8 and 6 weeks training for Exercise SHINNING STAR IV and BBC had in attendance a total number of 158 and 32 students respectively drawn from different formations and units within 6 Division area of responsibility.

Highlights of the event were presentation of awards to the best graduating students and group photographs.
