The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Habu Gumel, has expressed optimism about the performance of the 76 athletes set to participate in 11 events at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Speaking on Saturday during the Olympic Day Celebration in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, Gumel said he was confident that Nigeria’s contingent would make the country proud.

He explained that this was the first Olympic Games with full gender parity, which aligned with the NOC’s agenda.

Gumel further reassured sports enthusiasts that the athletes would inspire the nation and admirers worldwide.

Taraba State governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, who also spoke at the event, said his administration would continue to support young athletes, improve sports infrastructure, and encourage active lifestyles to build a stronger and healthier community.

The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Joseph Joshua, encouraged the Nigerian contingent to the Olympics to remain focused and determined.
