President Bola Tinubu warmly welcomed the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, to the State House in Abuja.

During their meeting, Tinubu congratulated the ‘Oba’ on his ascension to the throne, emphasizing the divine nature of his appointment.

“Your ascendancy to the throne, like my becoming president, is the divine will of the Almighty God,” Tinubu said, highlighting the parallels between their ascension to power.

He praised the Alaafin’s humility, foresight for development, and commitment to upholding Yoruba traditions, describing the inherited tradition as “made of gold.”

Tinubu also commended the Alaafin’s character and discipline, noting that he had “uplifted the names and culture of Yoruba man in Canada.”

He expressed gratitude that the monarch chose to visit him first after his coronation, saying, “It’s a good thing that you’re back, you’re crowned, and you came here first. I really appreciate that.”

The President emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in nation-building, stating, “The culture pins the stability of our nation require inclusiveness… We have to put together to build a nation, a nation of prosperity, a nation that God Almighty will continue to see as a nation of peace, stability, and progress.”

Tinubu revealed his administration’s priorities, including education and healthcare, and assured the Alaafin that his office is open to working together to advance these initiatives.

“We’ve given priority to education, Medicare, and part of the private discussion I had with you… for the need for the upliftment of education and cultural value of this country. I’m there with you. The doors are open.”

“My prayer is that God will give you the wisdom and rest of mind and give you the success to navigate your way through the kingdom. History will be yours to define by the grace of God Almighty.”
