Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated a groundbreaking radio station owned and operated by a local government in Nigeria.

The station, situated in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos, marks a significant milestone as the country’s first radio station under the ownership of a local government.

The launch event saw the Governor represented by his Deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as part of the unveiling of several legacy projects undertaken by Mushin Local Government Chairman Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye at Oliyide Street, Mushin.

The establishment of the radio station in Mushin highlights the importance of direct communication with the local populace. Speaking through his Deputy at the launch, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the initiative, emphasizing the value of effective communication with citizens.

“It’s always good to communicate with our people. So, we must appreciate the Chairman of the Local Government for building these notable projects. First, getting all the federal agencies in one place, so that if you need anything, you are not running from one place to another. Secondly, establishing this radio station, and many other projects, including roads, markets, and others, is a real achievement,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The Governor further noted that the state’s progress under the All Progressive Congress (APC) includes the commissioning of various infrastructure projects such as roads, Primary Healthcare facilities, Schools, and Administrative blocks.

“This implies that the party is a progressive one, urging the people to unite and be able to stand on the President’s mandate,” Sanwo-Olu stated. He stressed the importance of residents possessing a voter’s card for the nation’s prosperity, tied to the reforms and policies of the president.

“To be able to stand on that mandate, every resident must possess a voter’s card, stressing that those who are yet to possess the voter’s card should ensure they go out when the registration process commences, as the prosperity of the nation strongly depends on the reforms and policies of the president,” he added.

The launch of the Mushin LG Radio Station is seen as a laudable initiative worthy of emulation by other Local Government Areas, according to Governor Sanwo-Olu.
