The new Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, has been charged to prioritise financial stability, transparency and accountability in the nation’s financial sector.

President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Innocent Okwuosa gave the charge on Tuesday in Abuja during a courtesy call on Dr. Madein.

The ICAN helmsman who said the institute understood the enormity of the responsibilities of the new accountant-general assured that the accounting body would continue to encourage her and other ICAN members in the public and private sectors to adhere to its ethics jn order to succeed.

Dr. Okwuosa seized the opportunity to apprise the AGF of the ICAN Accountability Index, one of the institutes’s innovations to contribute to the promotion of accountability in transparency in the country.

The index, he said, was a novel and first of its kind, developed to assist the adoption of best practices in public financial management at all tiers of government.

The ICAN-AI, according to Dr. Owuosa, had been ratified by several national and international organisations, including the World Bank, Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability and the International Federation of Accountants as an equitable and professional way of monitoring public financial management practices.

Responding, the AGF expressed appreciation to ICAN and its leadership for the honour done her.
