Oyo police arrest ex-Ooni wife Naomi over stampede that Killed 35 minors

The tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday during a Christmas Funfair at the Basorun Islamic High School in Ibadan, Oyo State which resulted in the death of 35 minors, with six others critically injured as led to the arrest of ex-Ooni of Ife wife.

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of eight suspects, including Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, in connection with the incident.

According to the police statement, “Sequel to the Stampede incident recorded on Wednesday 18/12/2024…the Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the good people of the State that (8) Persons have since been arrested for their various involvements.”

The other suspects arrested include the school principal, Mr. Fasasi Abdullahi, and individuals such as Mr. Genesis Christopher, Mr. Tanimowo Moruf, Mr. Anisolaja Olabode, Mr. Idowu Ibrahim, and Abiola Oluwatimilehin.

The police have transferred the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department at Iyanganku for further investigation.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police will lead the investigation.

The Oyo State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be served accordingly and sympathizes with the families and loved ones affected by the tragedy.
