The Ekiti State governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has extended his congratulations to his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, for receiving an honorary doctorate degree from Lagos State University (LASU).
The honorary doctorate degree, specifically a Doctor of Letters, will be presented to Dr. Kayode Fayemi during the 40th anniversary celebration and 26th convocation ceremonies of LASU. The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 22nd, at the main campus in Ojo, Lagos.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser (Media), Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji described the recognition given to Dr. Fayemi as heartwarming. He emphasized that it acknowledges the numerous contributions made by Fayemi to the progress of democracy and nation building over the course of three decades.
The governor highlighted the symbolic significance of the award being bestowed upon Fayemi after he had already left office. This recognition serves as a testament to Fayemi’s outstanding performance as a two-term governor and former federal minister.
Governor Oyebanji also acknowledged Fayemi’s noteworthy accomplishments in areas such as Human Rights, National Integration, and African Security Development. These achievements played a significant role in the consideration for the honorary doctorate.
Fayemi, according to Oyebanji, is seen as a source of pride for the people of Ekiti, both within Nigeria and worldwide. The Governor noted that this recent honor, which follows Fayemi’s election as President of the Forum of African Regions (FORAF), further confirms his relevance and influence.
Governor Oyebanji expressed his belief that this prestigious recognition will inspire Fayemi to continue dedicating himself to selfless service in the years ahead. He hopes that Fayemi will contribute to the betterment of Ekiti, Nigeria, the global community, and humanity as a whole.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the authorities of LASU for acknowledging Dr. Fayemi’s accomplishments and deeming him deserving of this honor. Oyebanji considers the award as a well-deserved gesture of recognition for Fayemi’s standing as a renowned scholar, pro-democracy activist, advocate of national unity, security expert, and distinguished statesman.
“We share in the joy of this well earned recognition on our leader, former Governor of the state and a global citizen whose service to the state, country and humanity is priceless.
“On behalf of my wife, Olayemi, the Government and people of Ekiti State, I congratulate our amiable leader on this milestone and pray that the good Lord continue to sustain him with his grace and favour as he continues to work for the development of mankind”, the Governor added.
