Osun Judicial Workers’ Strike Continues, State JUSUN Insists on Probe of CJ

December 1, 2023 2 min read

There is no end in sight for the judicial crisis in Osun State as the judicial workers insisted on the strike action until their demands for investigation and action on the state Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, is looked into.

The national body of the judicial workers union had visited Osun State to intervene in the on-going strike, but the outcome sustained the status quo as the striking workers insisted on pursuing the strike action and rejecting any suggestion to suspend the action.

Reports from the meeting indicated that the national delegation eventually bowed to the detailed presentation of its state chapter and even extended the tenure of the local executive.

The national body which had initially dissociated itself from the local strike was reportedly shocked at the details of the abuse of power and infractions levelled against the state Chief Judge by the state chapter.

An internal report by the union noted as follows: “The National Secretariat later visited Osun State and our agitation was presented for adoption. In a meeting which lasted for hours, several issues in regards to the strike were successfully trashed out and the National Secretariat were left with no option than to embrace the State Branch on their demands for the rights of our members.

“Upon these, a letter of extension of tenure of office was issued in favour of the incumbent JUSUN Executive Council in Osun State to enable them accomplish the purpose of the strike actions.”

It was learnt that the national delegation also met the representatives of the embattled Chief Judge led by Hon. Justice Aderibigbe and Hon. Justice Okediya with the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice and other two Deputy Chief Registrars in attendance.

The meeting lasted for almost two hours where agreement was reached to allow the committee for dialogue headed by Hon. Justice Adenlu to meet with JUSUN exco for possible attention to all demands and requests.

The meeting with the committee has been scheduled to be held at the Judges Conference Room, High Court, Osogbo.

The outcome of the meeting shall thereafter be deliberated upon in the emergency congress that shall be held on Monday, 4th December, 2023.
