More than 500 farmers, students, and members of the public participated in a tree planting programme organised by the University in Okeho, Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, highlighting growing support for environmental sustainability and sustainable agriculture.
The programme recorded an impressive turnout, with the venue filled to capacity as participants from across the area gathered for the initiative. The large attendance reportedly left many people without seats.
Over 500 farmers and other interested individuals were registered during the programme. One of the beneficiaries, a young farmer who had already prepared his farmland by digging planting holes, received 80 tree seedlings for immediate planting.
The event attracted several key stakeholders, including the Chairman of Kajola Local Government Area, leaders of the Farmers’ Association, Women in Agriculture, and representatives of various secondary schools.
The University said the strong participation reflects increasing public interest in environmental conservation and sustainable farming practices. It added that the initiative forms part of its commitment to promoting tree planting, climate resilience, and stronger collaboration with farming communities across Oyo State.
