Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended his condolences to the family of the late Major-General Adeyinka Adebayo, former Military Administrator of the defunct Western Region, over the passing of his wife, Chief Mrs Modupe Adebayo.

Governor Abiodun described the late Mrs Adebayo as a woman of substance and exceptional brilliance, who stood by her husband through the turbulent military years and helped him achieve monumental success in various positions.

He noted that she worked tirelessly to develop Ekiti State, particularly after the transition to civil rule in 1999, which led to the election of her son, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, as the first democratically elected governor of Ekiti State.

In a condolence message, Governor Abiodun said: “The passing of Chief Mrs Modupe Adebayo at 85, though a sad event, is one event over which we cannot but express gratitude to Almighty God for a life extremely well lived. Mama Modupe Adebayo, wife of an extremely distinguished Army chief and Military Administrator of the defunct Western Region and mother of the first civilian Governor of Ekiti State, lived a life that was a study in excellence”.

He further praised Mrs Adebayo’s exceptional intellect, deep faith, and contributions to Nigeria’s democratic experience.

β€œShe was a woman of great intellect and deep faith in God who helped her husband navigate complex and challenging epochs in Nigerian history.

β€œA patriot of no mean repute, Mama also made positive contributions to our democratic experience, offering wise counsel that helped stabilise Ekiti State and the country at large” he mentioned

Governor Abiodun commiserated with the Adebayo family and prayed for eternal rest for the departed matriarch.
