Ogun State Government has initiated a sensitization campaign to increase student enrollment in public schools.

The campaign led by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the team visited selected markets and motor parks in Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Ilaro, and Abeokuta on Friday to promote the benefits of public education.

Prof. Arigbabu highlighted the upgrades made to facilities in public schools, including those catering to children with special needs, to create a conducive learning environment. He also emphasized the presence of qualified and competent teachers who can help children reach their full potential.

The Commissioner stressed that the Government’s goal is to ensure that no child in Ogun State is denied access to quality education, which has been made free by the government.

The campaign aims to encourage parents and guardians to enroll their children in public schools, promoting education as a key driver of success in life.

Arigbabu said, β€œWe are embarking on this sensitisation to ensure no child in Ogun State is denied of qualitative education which the government has made free.

β€œWe are here to tell the parents and guardians that the free registration of children for the next 2024/2025 academic session has commenced for three and six years old into pre-nursery, nursery and primary one classes respectively.

β€œWe urge parents and guardians to take their wards to nearby public primary schools from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 1pm, as well as ensure proper monitoring of their wards’ academic and moral activities in schools, for a successful and sustainable future”.

The Commissioner emphasized that the government has made significant investments in education, including capacity building for teachers, construction of new classrooms, modern laboratories, computer rooms, smart classrooms, and provision of furniture.

These efforts aim to create an optimal learning environment in schools throughout the state.

Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, urged parents to be patient and allow their children to progress through the normal learning process.

This, she said, will help them develop resilience and maturity as they advance to higher levels of education.

Dr. Mikail Lawal, Executive Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board, added that parents should instill discipline and moral values in their children and set good examples for them to follow. By doing so, parents can complement the efforts of the education system and help their children become well-rounded individuals.
