December 8, 2023 2 min read

The Nigerian Army has presented various awards to 35 officers who distinguished themselves in the 2023 examinations conducted by the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, TRADOC, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, in a statement on Friday, said the award ceremony took place in Minna, Niger.

Uba said the awards were in various categories for different levels of the examinations conducted by the TRADOC in the out-going year.

He listed the categories to include the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Award for Excellence, from Lieutenant Captain Practical Promotion Examination; Awards for the Best Candidates Per Subject, Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination; and the Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination, among others.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who was represented by Chief of Training (Army), Maj-Gen. Sani Muhammed, commended TRADOC for raising the bar.

Lagbaja said the Commander of TRADOC, Maj-Gen. Kelvin Aligbe, had emplaced the right framework of minds of the candidates/awardees to engage in healthy competitions.

He said the gesture would encourage junior commanders to strive for sound capacities in line with the command’s philosophy of the COAS.

The COAS said the award would also encourage the culture of hard work among officers and ginger them to strive towards achieving high standard of professionalism in the Nigerian Army.

He commended the Commander of TRADOC for laying solid foundation for the institution to continue to strive for excellence at all times and congratulated him for the multiple projects achieved since his assumption of duty.

Earlier, Aligbe said the merit award was conceptualised to reward excellence as key driver for success.

He said the award was a means of promoting and enhancing the overall service and administrative efficiency, pointing out that the annual event also provided needed impetus towards achieving the over all operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.

The high point of the event was the presentation of awards and souvenirs to dignitaries that graced the occasion and inauguration of projects at Minna Military Cantonment.
