It’s a Boko Haram splinter group, says Gov. Sule

A new terror group, known as the Wulowulo, has reportedly emerged in North-Central Nigeria, prompting an alarm from Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The governor, who said this during an expanded security meeting in Lafia, revealed that intelligence reports indicate that the Wulowulo group is a splinter group of the Boko Haram sect.

According to him, the terror was emerging in parts of the North Central, particularly in Kwara State.

“One of the reasons why we invited you here is the fact that the situation of insecurity, especially in other parts of the country are big concern, and some of them are beginning to spread into our state. It is very important that we take steps to ensure that does not happen to us.

“As you are aware, this new group of Wulowulo, which is a splinter group of the Boko Haram, is beginning to surface in the North Central zone. We need to ensure that we take certain steps not to allow it at least to come into our state.

“The Lakurawa group is now a big problem in Kwara. Originally, they were somewhere around Kebbi and Sokoto States, but now they have become prominent in Kwara. Kwara is one of the states in North Central. We should be concerned that it does not extend all the way to Nasarawa State.”

Mr Sule emphasised the need for vigilance to prevent the infiltration of extremist elements into the state.

He also directed a full-scale investigation into the recent killings in Kokona Local Government Area.

The governor also expressed worry over a violent clash in Ndama village of Kokona Local Government Area, where seven people lost their lives in a land dispute between the Mada and Ninzom communities.

He therefore directed the Commissioner of Police and State Director of the State Security Services, SSS to commence full investigation into the incidents.

Mr Sule further decried the rising cases of abduction in Lafia and Karu local government areas, urging security agencies to intensify efforts and adopt new strategies to curb the menace.
