NEMA Seeks End to Land Allocation on Water Channels

October 14, 2023 1 min read

The National Emergency Management Agency has urged the Anambra State government to avoid the allocation of land and granting of building permits along waterways to reduce floods.

This was made known during a visit by the state Deputy Governor, Gilbert Ibezim, to the Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Ahmed, in Abuja, on Friday.

Ibezim added that NEMA had played a vital role through the support given to the state to manage the growing impact and threats by floods, hence the appeal for more support.

The Director-General of the agency, Mustapha Ahmed, gave the assurance that the agency would tackle the challenges of flood in the state and proffer solutions to it.

“Your visit to NEMA is a practical display of efforts towards building a strong collaboration between Anambra State and NEMA on disaster risk management and building of community resilience”, he added.
