The Lagos State Government, LASG, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to develop the Green Line Metro, a 68km rail line connecting the Lekki Free Zone to Marina.

This was revealed by the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday through his X page

He tweeted β€œThe Green Line Metro is here.

β€œToday, we signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to bring this ambitious project to life.

β€œThe Green Line is a 68km rail line designed to run from the Lekki Free Zone to Marina, connecting with the Blue Line at Marina. This new line will transform our transport landscape, linking key areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, and more.

β€œThis rail line is projected to carry over 500,000 passengers daily at launch, rising to over a million as demand grows. With the Ministry of Finance Incorporated and CHEC leading the design, financing, and operation, the Green Line will redefine public transport in Lagos.

β€œThe Green Line complements our existing rail lines, including the Red Line, which has already begun partial operations. Together, these lines form the backbone of our Strategic Transport Masterplan, designed to create a fast, efficient, and connected Lagos” He said

The Green Line, designed to carry over 500,000 passengers daily, will link key areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, and more, transforming the transport landscape of Lagos. This new line complements the existing Red Line and Blue Line, which has already served 2 million passengers in its first year of operation.

The MoU marks a significant milestone in Lagos’ Strategic Transport Masterplan, aimed at creating a fast, efficient, and connected city. With the Ministry of Finance Incorporated and CHEC leading the design, financing, and operation, the Green Line is poised to redefine public transport in Lagos.

The impact of these rail lines extends beyond transportation, catalyzing economic growth, connecting communities, reducing travel times, and enhancing the quality of life for millions. As Lagos continues to lead the way in urban development, the Green Line Metro project is a testament to the city’s commitment to building a future that works for all.
