The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a new minimum wage of N85,000 for state workers.

Sanwo-Olu who made this significant announcement that will impact the lives of thousands of workers in the state said it’s as a result of the state strong financial capacity.

The Governor made this announcement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, October 16.

This new wage surpasses the national minimum wage of N70,000 by N15,000.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the state’s decision to pay the higher wage is driven by its financial capacity, not a desire to outshine others.

β€œI am glad to let you know that the minimum wage for Lagos, which we conversed and discussed with our union, is N85,000 today.

β€œIt is not a competition, so I am not going to say we are paying more than some other people; it is a function of affordability and it is a function of capacity. But we know too well that when people live in Lagos, Lagos has a premium in terms of even the cost of living; we are fully aware,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

He continued, β€œWe actually increased salaries earlier in the year and deserving so for our staff, and we will continue to do that,” he added.

This development demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to enhancing the standard of living for Lagos workers.
