Kogi State Government confirms Chief Olusegun Joseph Areh as Obadofin of Oweland

The Kogi State Government has officially appointed Chief Olusegun Joseph Areh as the Obadofin of Oweland, effective February 11, 2025.

This decision was made by His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who approved Areh’s appointment to the esteemed position.

To understand the significance of this appointment, it’s essential to delve into the background of the Oweland kingdom. Located in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Oweland has a rich cultural heritage and a complex traditional system.

The stool of Obadofin became vacant following the demise of late Obadofin of Oweland, Oba Micheal Yusuf, in January 2023 .

After a thorough selection process, Chief Olusegun Joseph Areh emerged as the preferred candidate for the position. Areh, who is currently the Obanesa of Oweland, was chosen by the Traditional Selectors, empowered by the Edict 12, 1995 ruling.

His appointment was also ratified by the Okun Traditional Council, which forwarded his name to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for executive approval.

As the new Obadofin of Oweland, Chief Areh brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. Born on May 15, 1961, Areh hails from the Obanakin family, Oke’lepa Odolu, Kabba.

He has had a distinguished career, serving in various capacities, including as a staff member of Elf Oil Marketing LTD and Total Oil.

The Kogi State Government’s approval of Chief Areh’s appointment is seen as a significant step towards promoting peace and stability in the Oweland kingdom.
