Surprise shooting attack in Tel Aviv on Tuesday night left at least six people dead and nine wounded, Israeli police reported.
Two gunmen exited a tram and opened fire on passersby before being shot dead by security forces and an armed civilian.
The incident has been labeled a terrorist attack, but no militant groups have claimed responsibility.
Minutes later, air raid sirens sounded as Iran launched missiles toward Israel in retaliation for the killing of prominent leaders of its Axis of Resistance alliance.
According to Israeli television footage, the two gunmen got off the train and began firing on people on the platform.
Medics provided on-site treatment to the wounded, including some who were unconscious.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated that the attackers came from the West Bank city of Hebron. Smotrich plans to demand the deportation of the suspects’ families to Gaza and the destruction of their homes.
The attack occurs amidst heightened tensions in the region, with the war in Gaza approaching its first anniversary and escalating conflicts in Lebanon. The conflict has resulted in over 1,200 Israeli deaths and 250 hostages, and Israel’s campaign has killed over 41,000 Palestinians.
Israel is also fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon to stop rocket attacks, recently killing leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike in Beirut.
