The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed its plans to provide an update to the Nigerian public regarding its final decision on the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari.
Yunusa-Ari became the center of controversy when he prematurely declared Aisha Binani as the winner of the Adamawa governorship rerun election in April, even before the electoral process was concluded.
The INEC headquarters swiftly invalidated his declaration, and he was subsequently arrested by the police for his actions.
Following this, the commission proceeded to complete the election and announced the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the legitimate winner of the poll.
During an interview on the Channels Television Politics Today programme on Thursday, INEC spokesman Festus Okoye confirmed that the police have concluded their investigation into the matter.
When questioned about whether a decision has been reached, Okoye stated that the commission will soon communicate its position to the Nigerian public.
He said, “The Commission will soon take action in the case
of its suspended REC in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari.
“When asked whether INEC has enough evidence to establish a
case against Yunusa-Ari, Okoye said, “Yes.”
